While inĀ Marquette, MI (the UP!) The BF and I had some time to explore the town, ride bikes, and have some fun while we were in town for me to “race” Ore to Shore.
After a nice chat on twitter with Megan, aka @sweeton, she recommened a few place to eat and we planned to get together for drinks as well. After finishing Ore to Shore we decided to try Rubaiyat. It sounded interesting and even though they don’t have a website, we went for it. After being recommend by a fellow vegan, you can’t go wrong! We started with the Baba Ghannouj, and boy I was glad we both ate it…garlic! but totally amazing as well.
One of our meals came with soup. This was one of two vegan options. A Jamaican Black Beans & Rice soup. Full flavors, great spicy, and wonderful texture. It was a pretty darn good soup!
We opted for one of the curry dinner dishes, the Kath Katha. Veggies of Cabbage, Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Onions, Carrots, all cooked in a Coconut Curry sauce. The BF would have likes more sauce, I pretty less sauce so I enjoyed this a lot!
We also got a sandwich. The Lentil Burger came and it was amazing! Served with a salsa topping as well as lettuce, onion, and tomato all on focaccia…wow, great sandwich! Also came with a side of VEGAN potato salad (heavy on the dill).
After dinner we pedaled around town, hit up awards, then went into town for the Bell’s Brewery After party. This is where we met Megan! It was such a pleasure meeting her and I had the best time chatting with her about each of our vegan experiences and life in general. We also made plans to meet for breakfast the next morning.
Breakfast took us to Sweet Water Cafe. I has the cafe scramble, with maple creme to top off my sourdough toast. The sauce for the scramble was really amazing and made the entire dish stand out.
Then The BF & I split the Hot Winter Grain Cereal (read: amazing! Oatmeal, wheat berries, brown rice, millet, dried cranberries, and raisins topped with toasted almonds. Served with brown sugar and soymilk.) It was so yummy, filling, and well, amazing!
The BF created his own scramble with mushroom, spinach, and sprout.
